The third generation of Kia’s global saloon has established a reputation as a leader in its class whilst remaining on a budget.
The sharp-edged design of the Optima is something of a trendsetter and some of the world’s biggest names have followed in Korea’s footsteps of late, abandoning the rounder, more dated look that became a fixture in Europe for so long. The charismatic Tiger grille takes pride of place and the aggressively raked and high-waisted side profile gives a clue to it's sporting ability.
Generous exterior dimensions ensure luxurious amounts of legroom throughout the Optima and a well-appointed dashboard, elegantly laid out in a driver-centric fashion, creates a premium feeling cabin. Deluxe seats, offered in leather on certain models, complete the well-appointed interior that is filled with a range of technological equipment.
The saloon gets the 134 bhp version of the common-rail injection engine, which returns 57.6 mph and emits just 128 g/km of carbon dioxide. It hits 60 mph in 10.2 seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph with a six-speed manual gearbox. There is also an automatic option, for drivers that have this preference.
The Optima is offered in three different levels of equipment. Even at entry-level, 17” alloy wheels, air-con, ESC, Bluetooth and music streaming with voice recognition come as standard. The higher specification comes loaded with many functionalities, including a Smart Key, xenon headlamps, leather interior, a panoramic sunroof, 7” satnav screen with European mapping and an Infinity Premium Sound System.
Every model comes with Electronic Stability Control and Vehicle Stability Management, reinforcing Kia’s commitment to value for money and customer safety.
