The next generation Kia Sportage has been spotted being put through its paces on the infamous Nurburgring motorsports complex. The new Sportage is set to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and has been heavily influenced by the KX3 Concept which was revealed in November last year at the Guangzhou Motor Show.
Although the car was heavily disguised for its laps of the Nurburgring it is possible to discern some style clues. The profile and front-end grille are almost identical to the KX3 Concept and the headlight design appears to be similar. The KX3 features a coupé-style roofline and muscular wheel arches to give it an athletic, outgoing presence.
We also managed to catch a glimpse of the re-designed interior, which features a streamlined dashboard dominated by a seven-inch touchscreen. The screen controls the satellite navigation and infotainment system and offers an intuitive, connected experience.
We anticipate a total overhaul of the engine line-up, with the inclusion of a turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit. It is likely that we will see major leaps forward in ride quality and handling. As the debut of the Sportage at the Frankfurt Motor Show draws closer, we expect that Kia will release more details on engine choices and technological features.
